TruCare Fertility Clinic offers sperm storage services.
Sperm storage is a simple, accessible, and affordable option for individuals who are concerned about decreased fertility.
Some store because they are facing possible sterility due to cancer treatment or surgery mor couple who do not reside together.
Others are planning vasectomies or beginning the process of sex reassignment and choose sperm storage as a way of keeping their reproductive options open.
Sperm freezing, also known as cryopreservation, has been practiced for many decades. Cryopreserved sperm is frozen in liquid nitrogen at a temperature of -196 °C. The frozen sperm cells are held in a state of suspended animation and all cellular activity is essentially halted until thawing. After thawing, a percent of the sperm revive and return to the pre-freeze state. Many thousands of conceptions have occurred from the use of frozen sperm.
How do I arrange sperm freezing?
Please ask your GP or specialist for a referral form to see one of our specialists at TruCare Fertility Clinic.
It is preferable if, before your first appointment, blood tests for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV are arranged. We routinely screen for these infections because they may be transmitted through the semen, and to minimise the risk of contamination during storage.
Once you receive your blood test results, please contact us to arrange, to book a time, to produce the sample at our clinic. At this time you will need to sign consent forms for the freezing and storage of sperm. All frozen sperm sample are labelled accordingly.
